26 Days of Gratitude

First Corinthians 12:4-8 “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

Day 22 . . . Lent

It’s day 22 and we are back to another Wednesday. I Think I told you Wednesday is my busier then a normal busy day. Wednesday is the day I hit the ground running. Which is probably the reason I didn’t get a photo today. I decided to cheat and share this photo. It’s a photo I took from our last big snow fall in February.  We don’t have many snow days here so this was truly a big event. It was a beautiful snow and only lasted a few days.

The farm down the street to post snow brightened

1.) I’m grateful for chocolate ice cream. . . and only taking a little bit.

2.) I’m grateful we were able to pay our power bill today.

3.) I’m grateful Liz had a good school day.

4.) I’m grateful- even though sometimes I think it would be easier –  Liz wants to help me with my schoolwork. She is the sweetest child.

5.) I am grateful when I see the kids I teach they stop me and are happy to see me.

6.) I’m grateful for Adam’s shy hug today. He always gives me a quick hug when he leaves class. He is my shyest student. He always hugs me as when he leaves for the day –  to me,  that’s the biggest complement h could give me.

7.) I’m grateful for the true laughter we shared in class today. The kids wanted to act out the story of Moses. They had so much fun just laughing.

8.) I’m grateful for hot tea at night. It’s the best.

9.) I love it when Kathryn just comes up to me to give me  a hug and says, “I love you mom. “

10.) I’m grateful Mark feels well. Thank God!

I’ll see you tomorrow !

xoxo, Lisa

Day 21. . . Lent

Today we actually had snow in the south. Snow! and it’s the end of March. Amazing!

Liz in my glasses

It’s day 21 on our Lent Journey and can’t believe we are half way through and now going done the other way.  I can’t believe how many blessing there are in a day – even on the bad days there are still things worth taking a second look at.

1.) I love this girls smile – instantly she brightens up my day.

2.) I’m grateful for her willingness to let me photograph her over, and over, and over again.

3.) I love the sound of the dryer. It tells me I am keeping up with needs to be done around here.

4.) I am grateful for Birthday weeks. They are so much and can really make a girl feel good.

5.) I am grateful Mark cooked dinner again tonight. He really seems to be doing a little bit better.

6.) I am grateful for blankets on these cold, rainy nights.

7.) I am grateful we are all home tonight.

8.) Even though I didn’t want to go, I thought of those that want to run but can’t. So I went and I was grateful I could go.

9.) I am grateful my ASL teacher is going to except my late work. Even though I got behind for reasons out of my control she could have said no. I am grateful she didn’t.

10) I am grateful everyone in this house has more then enough to eat.

I saw another homeless man standing on another corner in a city the next town over again today. I emptied my pockets, and gave him what I had. Thanking God I could give and I went home, grabbed my camera and embraced the day.

 ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.’  Matthew 25-40

. . . Lent Day 18

Its Day 18 on our Lent Journey and today I had Saturday school. I’m still trying to catch up from all the happenings from the past two weeks.  A friend of mine asked me to stay behind after class and help her study for an hour. We stayed and got busy on our ASL and as things go,  I think she helped me more then I helped her.

 and I’m so grateful . . . it’s amazing how when you start to count your blessings you find them in everything.  Right now, I almost feel like I can do this school thing once again.

Flower March 21. 2014

Today I pull my words of Inspiration from Mother Teresa: ” Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” and once again I can’t help but think, Boy! Was she smart.

9.) I am grateful for another beautiful day in the South.

10.) I just jump with joy when someone tells me they really like my photography like my sister in law does. It’s so nice to hear.

Lent Day 17

It’s the second Friday of Lent and I have been doing a lot of reflecting.

I’m stunned by the private emails I have gotten from strangers telling me how much they are encouraged by our 40 days of gratitude.  Even though finding 10  things each day I am grateful for hasn’t been that hard,  getting it all down with a photograph and then putting it all on the blog  hasn’t been easy at all.   But, I can say my encouragement to keep doing it everyday comes from you guys and the love that has grown here.  It’s funny that in my first post I wrote introducing our Lent Journey  I thought this would be an easy task. I  always tell my kids “if it’s easy I must be doing it wrong“.

This rings true for me time and time again.

In all the ways I wanted to improve during this Lent time I keep slipping and sliding backwards – it’s like that pile of laundry waiting to be folded in the hall.  I just don’t want to fold the clothes. I would so much rather be here. . . playing with my photos and working towards being a photographer when I grow up. But, together we are working towards being stronger by putting things in perspective and focusing on what really matters.

Me in Black and white

 “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

  When I think of that – what matters more then this passage today?  I think it fits us this Lenten Friday.  It’s so powerful.

1.) I am grateful my husband was able to work today. It has been a long week of sorting things out because of last week. The life of the self employed is not an easy one.

2.) I am grateful we finally have the car thing settle. It’s been such an ordeal. We are ready to put it all behind us.

3.) I am grateful Kathryn and I got to spend time alone together last night.

4.) I am grateful her eye looks better and better each day.

5.) I am grateful for staying home today. It has been along week.

6.) I am grateful to have Mark to talk to and sort things out in my mind.

7.) I am grateful to have had help folding that big pile of laundry in the hall.

8.) I am very pleased Patrick is doing so well now. He has had a ruff road.

9.) I am grateful when my kids have troubles in there lives they come to me.

10.) I am grateful I am not on this Lent Journey alone. Thank you so much for joining me.

Lent. . . Day 16

The past couple of weeks have been tying to say the least. We have had a lot happen:  But, with perseverance, sticking together and of course the best Nana this little family of our is  coming through.

Victors Nephews

These little guys came to our house last Tuesday. They were sweet little boys.  When I asked if I could take there photo, the big brother pulled out his sword  and gave me an enthusiastic YES! It’s not one of my best shots but, I like the intense look there faces and the little brother makes me smile.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,”

[Galatians 5:22]

BOY! Does this scripture hit home for me  today. Sometimes I get the feeling God is trying to tell me something. It seems every time I go here  I get the scripture I need the most

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.) I’m thankful Kathryn remembers how to scan on the new computer. Without her help I could have never finished my work today.
2.) I am grateful Mark feels like a 4 out of 10 instead of a 1.5 or a 2 out of 10. Thank God for medication and good doctors.
3.) I am grateful my kids are trying to encourage me to do well in school. The take Liz aside to play with her to give me time to do my homework. They know I have to get it done.
4.) I am grateful everyone helped clean the downstairs today. When I rushed out the door I left it in a terrible mess.
5.) I am so grateful for the flowers my dear friend sent over today just letting me know she is there for me if I need her.
6.) I am grateful for all the help my classmates are giving me to help me catch up. Even though they are mostly 19, 20  and I am. . .  not . . . they worry when I’m out. They ask me if everything is okay?
7.) I am grateful for the time Kathryn and I get to spend together tonight. An unplanned mother daughter night out is good for the soul.
8.) I am grateful Mark, Stephen and Liz got to go fishing together this evening. It’s such a beautiful day.
9.) I am thankful it’s the first day of spring. Finally here! Yay!
10.) I am thankful I am finally able to think straight and I’m ever so slowly catching up on things.
Day 15 . . . Lent
Have you ever had one of those days when every time you tried to post: the phone rang, people came in, someone needed you to do something else, you really needed to do something else?  That has been me today.
Alex at the beach
“Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!”
